Hi, I wish to thank all that will read and reply to this post/inquiry. I am a newbie, and am attempting to acquire my pilots license. I wish to purchase a project plane and freshen it up to correct safe flying condition as I learn to fly and with time hope to transfer to my own plane to further my pilot training. Not long ago I was asked by someone whom knows I am very mechanically inclined if I knew anyone who wanted a plane. The story was about a barn find, something that has sat for 25 years, but was operational when stored. I have followed up on this claim and have found it to be true and today I was able to view the plane. The plane is a cessna 175 square tail. It already has a lycoming 360 conversion with less than 200 hrs since installed with 0 time accrding to owner and logs. Owner tells me I can have the plane at no cost as long as I purchase engine and low hour mc cauley variable pitch prop at fair price. He states he does not want certified value of engine and prop but value of what the engine is worth to someone who wants it for a fan boat or of the likes. The plane was flown till the owner removed the radios for upgrade and never completed it about 25-30 years ago. Fuel is well varnished, tires finished, the newer paint now has much bird droppings covering it and the mice have made it there home. I can see little evidence of corrosion and it is stored inside a barn. Is this plane worth restoring to service? Am I wasting my time? What might this be worth? I am trying to determine a value, and have not talked numbers with the owner but he seems fair and was excited in the idea of someone new wanting to return it to service. He has offered the new old stock radios he was trying to install with it. I am attempting to take to the air in a cost effective manner. I do not have a large pocket book to finance a plane, and like the looks of the older planes lines. Again any and all advice is appreciated. Am I wasting my time? What would this large project be worth? An roughly am I in a reliable class of plane for training and sport aviation with this aircraft? Thank you I await your replies.

[/quote] I am looking at a similar 175 and I think it is worth no more than $7,500 and more likely less. The owner is still thinking about that price. If you decide not to go through with the purchase I would be interested and can be reached at AKSNWCAT@GMAIL.COM Thanks. |
