I have a 175 w/O-360 Lyc conversion. Lately Ive been pondering what benefit, if any, I could gain from changing my constant speed 76" prop to a fixed pitch 80" prop. Would the weight loss make any significant difference in take off performance. Throw in the Const Speed 80" as an option and how does it change things.

Im thinking changing to a fixed pitch prop would save me atleast a 100lbs.

Anybody out there have an insight.

Thanks

For what its worth, my entire 76" C/S prop with hub complete weighs less than 75lbs., probably closer to 50lbs. I don't think switching to fixed pitch will save you that much weight.

I can't stand fixed pitch props myself, it aggrevates me to not be able to load the engine to an RPM that feels comfortable for the conditions.

Now, all that said, do whatever works! Stoots in Fairbanks has those STC's for longer props he should know how they work, both fixed and C/S for your O-360.

Cheers!

Kris
