Several of our neighbors from Canada plan to fly into Anchorage next week in their 175's via the Alaska/Canada (ALCAN) highway. Tyler is trying to get a few folks together if possible to meet with them and share ideas/suggestions for travel and sight-seeing while they are here. They plan to fly the last leg from Whitehorse into Merrill in a single day if possible, weather permitting. Any suggestions just let Tyler know.

We usually do our entry at Northway, ORT. Routing can be via the Alcan via Kluane Lake or via the Yukon River to Dawson City then X/C to ORT. The adjacent strip at Tok is paved and downtown adjacent to many highway tourist facilities. Gulkana is our usual next stop. From there the Palmer Highway will lead you to Anchorage. If you want to be really impressed get to Talkeetna and buy a ride into the Denali area. The pilots there know all the sites to see and you can take pictures instead of finding your way around in a mountainous traffic area.

I would agree on the northway custom stop. Also eat at the diner there.

I did that 3 or 4years ago and loved the trip. I ended up flying high and going direct Northway to anchorage over the mountains. I think I found the service ceiling of my 170 that day. I have never flown that high since. I like the bug smasher view to much.

Hi guys!

I was the guy talking to Tyler about going to AK from Lloydminster Canada.
We went in through Northway & the Suslota pass. Coming back we got fuel at Tok
& then stopped at Chicken where we phoned Canadian Customs & cleared at Dawson.
Left Dawson 2 days later & got weathered in at Faro overnight. Flew from Faro to Watson lake for fuel
Then straight to Peace River overnight then home. My New Skytec starter gave up the ghost at
Faro so it was propstarts from then on.
I talked to Tyler a couple of times on the phone while we were there but Tyler was busy & our
bunch was always going in different directions. We just didn't manage to get hooked up.
We did get over to Lake Hood, The Air Museum, The Anchorage Museum, Peggy's restraunt
at Merril, Birchwood airport, The Snow Goose restraunt, & had a great day at Whittier veiwing
tide water Glaciers etc. I ended up with about 2000 pictures from the trip. We found people of
Anchorage to be warm & freindly. I would highly recomend this as the ultimate place to fly to.
I didn't know there were that many supercubs in the world!...... & float planes!...My gawd!
Every third person in Anchorage must be a pilot!

Bummed I didn't get to meet your group Darwin. Part of the problem was that I don't sit around when there are fish to catch and I'm flying to get to them. Glad you had a great time. Post pics, I'd like to see what you did.
