I made reservations at Gaston day before yesterday, and they had no single rooms available. Jim Swanson and I are going to share a two bedroom cottage. If you haven't made reservations, you had better hurry. I would be interested to know who is coming to the flyin. How about posting on this topic, if you plan to attend?
Erik Hoopes
I am coming, I got a small cottage a month ago.

The only other that have contacted me so far is Jim Canfield, who is coming over from Rogers, and Mike Hofstetter said he would like to come but never confirmed. So with Jim that makes 4 of us for sure and maybe 5 that I know of. There were alot of folks from our area that said they wanted a southern fly-in in January's poll so I hope some more come out of the woodwork.

I will be bringing my bush flyin', tree jumpin', heavy haulin' Project with me!
Erik Hoopes
I got a call today from Mark Brandon who plans to come. He said his 175 is not yet airworthy so they will fly down from MO in a Legend Cub.
Erik Hoopes
Mike Hofstetter emailed today and said he will be there.

That makes 6 of us I think.
Erik Hoopes
Mark Brandon said he got the last cottage!

biggrin.gif Only three weeks to go. Hope the weather is good. I'm looking forward to it.

Ya I hope the Mechanic-ing between now and then is good.
Erik Hoopes
Pat Svboda Said he is coming too.
Erik Hoopes
If anyone tried to make a reservation but they had no space, call me. I may be able to work something out.

dry.gif Long range weather forcasting is not very accurate, but at this time, it looks like early to mid-morning is the time to fly to Gastons. Thunderstorms are building up in the afternoon during these unsettled weather conditions, so I'm planning mid-morning Friday for the trip, unless conditions change. Bob

I was just wondering how the flyin went and if anybody got any pictures?

The flyin went much better than expected. I think we had about seven 175s there. It was difficult to communicate with one another, because we didn't have planned activities in advance. Unfortunately, Kris Hoopes and Jim Swanson didn't make it. I'll post a list later. I'll also try to upload photos.

Here's another shot at an upload. I tried before to upload seven photos, but it seems all were too large, except one, in spite of them being reduced to best for web.

Thanks for the picture and update. Looking at the smiles ,everybody was enjoying. The picture really emphasised the size of the prop, it doesn't look that big at a distance, but when you put people next to it for reference, whew is it big,

Yes, that whoppin prop is why get you 135 mph cruise. I converted to Lyc. 0-360, but don't get the cruise speed that I did with the GO-300, and that big old worn out looking prop. Stay with the GO-300, as long as you can get parts - convert only as a last resort!

Bob, burn the photos to a disk and mail them to me full size.

Hey Bob, never got those new photos.. you too busy working on that Stinson?

What do our Club members think about having a fall fly in at Gastons, say, early to mid October?

biggrin.gif Gastons is in northern Arkansas on the White River. Nice place! I would be interested in going back there for a flyin, PROVIDED, we have members commit to going, make reservations far in advance, have a contact person so all could check in for a get together. It has to be organized. The one we had in May was a disaster, because there was no way to contact other 175 flyins. It was like you are on your own, and if you don't find another 175 driver you'r just out of luck. It is a busy place, and there are a lot of aircraft types that fly in there. There were dozens of YAKs there, and they got together for various events. The management knew nothing about the 175s coming in, so there was no way to get together. The 175 flyers I met there were really top class, and I regret I didn't get to vist and know them better! If you are interested in a flyin there, send me an email, and we'll try to make it happen - we need at least ten commitments to get it done. It's a 300 NM trip for me, but I'd be happy to commit, if we have enough others.
