Hello everyone! Its been a while since I was on the site (moving, building house) man it's grown.I still have my 59 175 and do not know what to do with the engine sitution I am in?I read about magnum engines doing an overhaul on the go 300 but at what cost?My plane was not overhauled correctly and has to be reoverhauled.I don't know which is the best option overhaul or part out the plane I really do not have the money for the conversions.Just looking for some answers my plane is currently in an unairworthy condition because of the engine.Any help would be great.
Thanks Brad

Brad,

What is wrong with the engine?

Jim Fallis had Gene at Magnum overhaul his engine last year, not sure about the cost but I think it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 20K. I flew with Jim shortly after he got it back and the engine was strong and ran great. I would suggest you contact Jim for more details. Gene seems to be a wiz with the GO-300, it helps that he also has a 175 with the GO-300E.

If you get a good overhaul on the GO-300 and run it like it should be run, it is a good strong engine.

There a several conversion options out there depending on your bank account size. The newest would be Stoots IO-390 conversion.

Thor Mckilrath (spell?) Just spent about 27k on his overhaul. He said he put in all available new parts. I can get you his number..

Brad,
I had my engine overhauled by Magnum and it has worked out great so far minimal oil consumption, clean oil even at 30 hours after the change than turning black by 10 hours. You will spend about 20,000 I would give Gene a call and see what he has to say. I think Jim Canfield had his engine overhauled by Gene also. He said Gene had one built up for him in advance, and he flew in and had it changed out relatively quickly.
I'm like Rick and curious about what is wrong with your engine, low oil pressure?

Jim
