Lenny,

I have had the Concorde RG25X in my 58 model for about 2005 without any issues. The only change that was required was to the spacer block in the top of the battery box.

I've had one the past year. It's nice not to have to worry about wet acid, but you have to keep it charged good if you don't fly much, and use a trickle charger made for agm batteries- I've always read the agm batteries can't take much ..like less than 1 amp.

Thanks Tad, Rick for your input..I have decided to add one of those trickle charge system with the connectors straight on to the post and a spilt plug. I have charged my Gill 25 and it has held for the past few days. It is only about 18 months old, and I fly often, so I really do not understand it going dead all of a sudden...but you can by bad stuff even new..sooooo. When this one decides it will not take a charge any more, I will put in a concord sealed. again thanks for the info

Lenny,

I had a brand new G-25 that did the same thing to me. I considered the Concorde, but ended up switching to a light-weight sealed unit moved to the firewall. It took about 16 lbs off the aircraft weight by the time about 14' of copper cable was removed too. The light-weight battery turns the engine over about twice as fast, is less suseptible to cold and never had to be recharged, hand propped or jump-started. The 337 for the battery change should be on file here along with an extended baggage area that I had installed at the same time. I sold the old battery box on ebay for about $100. Good luck!

Doc,
thats a win-win-win 337, especially in colder areas where you a preheating the engine, and now the battery too.

Here in Texas having the battery in the rear protects it from the heat, and I like some weight in the rear, makes flaring a lot smoother.

Those Gill 25's are good batteries, but so small, they will sometimes loose charge when you least expect it. As for trickle chargers on a wet cell, get one that desulfates, like the VDC brand that northern tool sells for $50. I have one and it has brought a few batteres back to life.

Thanks Doc, I was discussing moving the battery with my a/p. Glad to hear there is a 337 out for it.

I have used the concords foer a long time and they seem to last a lot longer than the GILL's Have not used the sealed one yet due to the price. I have used the sealed type in my car for the last 10 years and the were really good until a couple of years ago and it seems the quatity has gone down.
I live near the Concord facory and have met the owners and they put out a good product and you cant go wrong with them, they sell a lot to the military as well so you know they have to be good.

Thanks for your input Ron..I have decided that the alternator is not up to par...it is charging, but not as it should...also, I believe that is the problem with some of the noise in my radios.
will probably attempt to keep the gill at this point, change out the alternator, regulator, noise buffer.
